So, Nathan had knee surgery the other day for the second time…yes that is right, for the SECOND time. He injured it playing basketball a few years ago and it never really heal 100%. The first time he got surgery, we lived in Dallas and had a car. This was a totally different experience!
We arrived at the hospital at 7am and Nathan squeezed his OGM (Overgrown Man- I made up that acronym, awesome I know! I know it really should be OM but just roll with it, OK!) self into a tiny gown and pants. For those of you who do not know Nathan, he is 6’7″ and enjoys eating steak and potatoes. He topped it off by squeezing his OGM feet into some hospital socks as they dangled off the end of the bed. We waited patiently for the nurse to call his name and then we said our goodbyes:
Jodi: See you when you wake up.
Nate: OK, love you
Jodi: Love you too. Break a leg!

I would have thought I was in the south not NYC. For a simple 2 hour surgery, we ended up leaving the hospital 10 hours later. But in the end, the surgery went well and Nathan was discharged to go home with two machines. One was a high tech ice machine and the other was a machine to help him exercise and bend his knee. So I had to get an OGM that had a full leg brace and crutches as well as two machines and myself home….hmmm. TAXI!!! With no help from the driver as he sat behind the wheel watching me run around like a chicken with my head cut off, I was able to get Nate, two machines and myself in and out of the taxi and home without a hitch.
At the moment, the couch is Nate’s best friend; however, he is able to move around more and more as the days go on. He plans on going to work by the end of next week. Ahh! Crutches, subway and stairs, OH MY! I am sure this is not going to be fun but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Power to Nate!
